What?

This blog is a place to find out and read about the decedents and individuals carrying the surname that originated with one Meir Von Rothenburg; Meir ben Baruch the Maharam of Rothenburg.

Why?

As the saying goes – “Who knows only his own generation remains always a child”.

Genealogy is like a jigsaw puzzle, and who doesn’t like a good puzzle. The thrill of finding one more piece and how it fits the overall picture. It is interesting and it is fun and it is, for me at least, also intellectually satisfying.

When?

Ideally not less than one post a month, most likely on the first Sunday.

How?

Through the use of online websites such as Geni.com, JRI Poland, and other databases; and perhaps even through DNA test sites such as Family Tree DNA.

Where?

Where to start? In the beginning. New visitors to the site are suggested to progress in chronological order. Start with the Prologue, and then read about the Maharam.

Who?

People who are descendants of individuals with the surname Rottenberg, Rotenberg, Rothenberg, Rothenburg, Roeytenberg, רוטנברג, רעעטנברג, or other variations of this, mostly Jewish, family name (also the surname Alter). Or anyone else that finds this blog somewhat interesting.
